As in version 2015, The Offy Handbook states self-managing as a right attitude an offy to have :
"You are the actor of your life. Note that we did not use the word “career” here. Your life happens within Officience, but also outside of Officience. And our objective as an organization is not to drive you through the ladder of success. It is simply to accompany you in whatever life goal you have, whether they are within the organization, or outside. As you will read in this handbook, we put in place a few processes such as salary reviews, performance evaluation, or identifying influencers. Don’t consider these as “processes” that you “have to” apply. They are simply guidelines to help you better manage your life. And you should maximize any opportunity to exchange with your influencers about your life."

Self-management FAQs
How can I find the right mission for me in no manager model?
- Trinh : When we started following the No Manager model, I was still junior at Officience, and my first mission was just ending. I was proposed to join a new mission that I did not feel comfortable with. I expressed my concerns about it, and still accepted to join a 2-month training for that mission.
After the 2-month period, it confirmed my impression, I did not want to work on this. So I raised this issue once again, and after one month I joined another mission, which I now enjoy!
I must confess it’s not easy to raise your voice like that to people who used to be manager in our old model, and especially for a “quiet” person like me. But after this experience, I am really glad I did share my concerns.
How can you modify my skills and abilities to find a right position for me? In your handbook, it says that I can change my role. But if don't have any knowledge about that position (for example: I study finance) and I want to work on a creative job. Is it possible?
After working for one year as a data analyst, I felt I was not challenging myself enough. I had joined online classes about web development before, and I enjoyed the mix of creative work and programming that it required.
I picked up more advanced online classes, and I found a mentor at Officience who could help me develop in that path. After 6 months of self-studying and mentoring, I shared my plan with everyone, and I started getting involved in small web development projects.
The most important: I had a plan for myself, and Officience became an enabler to achieve my personal goals.
"Your own time you shall manage". I don't understand about it. Does it mean that if I finish my daily work, I can go home anytime?
Well, yes and no. For example, I am working on a customer support project, and I don’t know when requests will come, so I have to be constantly connected. During idle time, I will usually socialize with other Offies, read books or articles, or build up new ways to improve the life of my project.
